Deaf Ministry Training Program

Training Deaf preachers, teachers, missionaries, and Bible translators to reach one of the largest unreached people groups on the planet.

About This Ministry

There are over 70 million Deaf people worldwide who use signed language as their primary means of communication. According to the Deaf Bible Society, 98% of them have never encountered the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way they can clearly understand. The Deaf are not just individuals with hearing loss — they are a distinct linguistic and cultural community, and one of the most unreached and unengaged people groups on the planet.

The Deaf Ministry Training Program at Sunset International Bible Institute exists to change that reality. We train Deaf men and women from around the world to become preachers, teachers, evangelists, church planters, and Bible translators — leaders who can take the gospel directly to their own communities without the barrier of interpretation or cultural distance.

Our students come from the United States, Mexico, Central America, Africa (Kenya, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia, DRC), Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal), Europe, and beyond. Many are already actively involved in ministry — preaching, teaching, planting churches, leading youth outreach, and translating Scripture into their native sign languages. With continued training and support, they are becoming the laborers the harvest has been waiting for.

Why This Matters

"How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one they have not heard of? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?"

— Romans 10:14-15

The Yoked Foundation

How YOKED Supports This Ministry

Support for the Deaf Ministry Training Program is funneled through The Yoked Foundation, the charitable arm of YOKED. Your giving helps fund tuition and training for Deaf students worldwide, qualified Deaf instructors and mentors, sign language Scripture tools and teaching materials, technology and online class access for remote learners, and mission trips to spread the gospel and plant Deaf churches.

For international students, it costs $500-$1,200 per month to train them well. For students in the United States, the cost rises to $2,000-$3,000 per month. Every dollar you give is a direct investment in eternity — releasing messengers of the cross into places where the gospel has barely flickered.

"They have lost their hearing. Must they lose their souls?"
— Hollis Maynard, Deaf Ministry Pioneer
